Born in 1910 in Bordeaux and died in 1987 in Lausanne, Jean Anouilh is a French playwright and screenwriter. He wrote many plays, tragedies as well as comedies. His most famous play is Antigone, a rewriting of the work of Sophocles, an idea that came to him during the Occupation. He has received numerous literary awards, including the Grand Prix du Théâtre de l`Académie Française in 1980.
