Gloria is convinced that every time she gets too close to the edge, she will be able to do a back flip. But the more time passes, the more she becomes a champion in the art of suffering... It's raining in Nancy, her hometown, and Gloria, at thirty-five years old, is once again homeless, with Le Royal, her bar, as her only stop, the only place where she can freely drag her depression and her anger, find someone to squat in, and drink without credit limit. But that evening, it is a much more painful past that she relives live, in spite of herself: in the street, she meets Eric Muir, now a Parisian and a star presenter of the small screen. Eric, without whom she would probably have fallen brutally, twenty years earlier, when, as a difficult teenager, she was interned in a psychiatric hospital for an indefinite period of time, by outdated parents, persuaded to do her good. Eric, her first love, son of a middle-class family from Nancy, with whom she lived her punk adventure. Eric, now comfortably installed in his chauffeur-driven car, and whom she would like, if not to pretend to ignore, at least to include in her hatred of the world and of herself; but he doesn't hear it that way... With a harshness of tone that we knew her for at the beginning, but also a certain tenderness for her characters, Virginie Despentes tells the story of a dramatic adolescence, branded by the incomprehension and stupidity of parents incapable of true love, broken by violence and the omnipotence of institutions. Bye bye Blondie is also the raging portrait of a woman conditioned by lack and abandonment, and who only knows how to live by the blind destruction of everything that could put an end to her suffering.
